For Jenna and her peers in the sex work industry, cash is no longer king. With the rise of online platforms like OnlyFans, Fansly, SextPanther, payment apps like Venmo, PayPal, CashApp and Zelle are the easiest ways to connect with fans and sell videos, clothing and other merchandise.

Getting kicked off a payment platform is a financial death sentence for sex workers, Jenna says. She is more discerning with her customers as she tries to avoid people who will report her account and relies on a stable of polite followers who are happy to buy her videos, most of which are sexually explicit. “Nothing weird or obscene,” she says. And with a financial transaction at the tip of her fingers, Jenna no longer has to rely on the U.S. Postal Service to get paid.
